Rhine Valleyaaa

Few rivers have captured the imagination of artists and travellers as much as the Rhine, a 1 320km/820mi ribbon rushing northwards from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea. Along the nicest stretch between Mainz and Koblenz, dreamy wine villages with dainty half-timbered houses are lorded over by legend-shrouded medieval castles. In 2002, the region became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ñ Location: Roads parallel both river banks, but there are no bridges – only ferries – between Koblenz and Mainz. A more leisurely way to experience the region is by tour boat with service from nearly all the nearby villages.
